The wetlands of Samut Prakan, in Southern Bangkok, are both a witness and a testament to colossal and rapid territorial transformations: from coastal erosion to flooding due to increased water levels. With communities forced to move as their homes are forever submerged, a social crisis is emerging. Beyond flattening ‘resilience’ discourses, this territory lies at the frontline of a human-generated conflict of violence and precarity. We can only measure certain aspects of this climate emergency: our sensors, tools, and units can only speculate on what future scenarios will unfold. How will the city of Bangkok adapt, once again, to its amphibian urban condition? Departing from Aerocene Studio Tomás Saraceno Aerocene’s ‘air quality sensing’, we thought we were a hovercraft, but we got stuck in the mud (aka Hovercraft) seeks new forms of knowledge exchange by questioning the notion and tools of ‘sensing’ the territorial, and social transformations resulting from climate change in Samut Prakan. Hovercraft is an event at the intersection of performance, installation, workshop, lecture, and conversation that will take place at Monitor Lizard House, which was transformed into a live-action site, of the wetlands of Samut Prakan.
